Clawesome Labs vs Cognio Labs: Two done-for-you OpenClaw setups

Both install OpenClaw on a VPS you own. Cognio wins on $499 simplicity and a 48-hour refund. We win on job-mapped teams, Managed Care depth, and a Canadian lab. Here is the honest split.

Both of us install OpenClaw on infrastructure you control. That is the category. This page is not “we are nicer.” It is when to pay Cognio, when to pay us, and when to DIY.

Cognio numbers below are from their public OpenClaw setup page as of 1 September 2026. Re-check before you budget. Ours are CAD on pricing.

When Cognio is the better buy

Hire them if:

  • You want a generic hardened install, not a custom job list, and $499 USD with a 48-hour refund is the offer you wanted.
  • $99/month optional ops is the retainer you will actually pay. Our Managed Care is more expensive because it is scoped as ongoing tuning, not a light watch.
  • You already like their public guides (VPS rankings, hardening writeups) and want the same shop to do the install.
  • You are comparing setup SKUs, not a Canadian entity or a four-job operating layer.

That is a real product. If that is the job, pay them. Linking out is cheaper than pretending otherwise.

When Clawesome Labs is the better buy

Hire us if:

  • You need Inbox / Research / Follow-through / Harness mapped to your operation — not a default swarm plus “we’ll pick skills.”
  • You want Managed Care as the product (model/API drift, integration breaks, agent tuning), not only a cheap retainer after a 14-day window.
  • A Canadian corporation and a founder you can get on a call in Eastern Time matters for procurement, banking, or “who do I sue.”
  • Starter at $500 CAD is how you validate one workflow (inbox, research monitor, or follow-up) before Business.

We will not win a race to the lowest setup invoice. Cognio is currently cheaper and faster to a generic live box if you pay today.

What is the same (do not invent a fight)

  • Your VPS, your credentials. Neither of us should be holding your Gmail OAuth on our multi-tenant SaaS. Cognio says that explicitly; so do we.
  • DIY is cheaper if you have Linux/Docker time. Both shops say hobbyists should self-host.
  • Hosted $9–55/month OpenClaw (Kilo, Launch, etc.) is a different category — runtime on their metal. Compare that on vs KiloClaw.

What we will not claim

  • We will not invent Clawesome customer logos. The lab’s operators come from marketplace and enterprise production work (eBay, Intel, Air Canada, Government of Canada) — that is prior experience, not a client list.
  • We will not claim Cognio is “fake,” “offshore theater,” or insecure. We have not audited their installs.
  • We will not match a 48-hour money-back clock we do not run. Our Business tier starts with a call because the job list is the product.

Price math (so nobody lies with FX)

$499 USD is not the same as $500 CAD. At typical 2026 FX, Cognio’s setup SKU is the higher cash outlay in CAD terms — and it includes a refund clock we do not offer. Our Starter is a narrower wedge (one workflow). Our Business fee is higher because you are buying architecture + training artefacts, not a templated box.

If someone tells you we are “the same as Cognio but Canadian,” they skipped the table.
